ATV Offroad Fury 4 (PS2)

Sony and Climax team up for another year of ATV racing. The ATV Offroad Fury games have been always been very solid games thanks in large part to Climax’s expertise with racing games. ATV Offroad Fury 4 is just as fun as it has been in the past.

ATV Offroad Fury 4 includes a story mode. It isn’t particularly innovative since you’re basically going around the world, winning races, joining better teams, and moving up in the ranks until you win the championship title. Playing the game’s story mode lets you earn cash to buy stuff in the game.

ATV Offroad Fury 4’s first improvement can be seen in the variety of vehicles that the game includes. You’ll still find plenty of ATVs, but you’ll also snowmobiles, motocross bikes, buggies, and trucks. The game’s tracks are considerably longer than they were before and significantly more varied. Part of this is to make use of the game’s expanded selection of vehicles so you’ll find some snow tracks to take on with the snowmobile. While the included tracks would have been more than enough, the game includes a fairly robust track editor. You can even share these online.

The gameplay should be familiar. The game’s trick system has been made more lenient so you’ll be pulling off sweet moves without spending too much time with the game. The controls in general seem tighter, allowing you to have more control of the vehicles. This is a welcome improvement and one that goes a long way in making the game enjoyable.

ATV Offroad Fury Pro has the ability to connect to the PSP’s ATV Offroad Fury Pro. You can trade vehicles and tracks via the two versions of the game. Additionally, when playing either game, you can check the combined message boards and leaderboards of both versions. You can’t play online against another platform, but online multiplayer worked well during our tests. The game does include PS2 vs. PS2 online multiplayer for up to six players in either head-to-head or multiplayer modes. The game includes offline multiplayer for up to four players.

ATV Offroad Fury Pro is one good looking game. The game’s vehicle models are a bit more detailed now and animate realistically. The game makes great use of ragdoll effects so you can expect the riders to go all over the place once you crash. As I mentioned above the tracks are much more varied and look great as well. The game’s draw distance is impressive, letting you see a good portion of the track at any given time. The framerate is equally solid and lets the game convey a respectable sense of speed.

The audio is equally as impressive. The sound effects are quite good. You’ll hear engine sounds, the sounds of the various vehicles going at insane speeds, and even more. It realls helps bring the game to life. The soundtrack has over 30 songs so you’ll find something to like in here.

ATV Offroad Fury 4 is a no-brainer for ATV fans. The game includes a lot of new content since the addition of other vehicles really does a lot to increase the breadth of the game. The gameplay is as solid as it has ever been.
